It’s weird to think that I have always acknowledged aliens as fact. But as my studies have increased in this class I have begun to realize more and more that they are something that our culture has grown to accept and conceptualize. In reality they are nothing more than ideas that have been more readily accepted. In fact, if aliens were real, they would resemble nothing of what movies, comics, and stores have portrayed them.
For example, if an alien civilization had traveled thousands and thousands of light years from their home planet in order to reach us, they would in no way resemble us, as the ‘greys’ and other alien ‘peoples’ do. Our own complex biological appearance is confined to the organic chemistry and natural selection that is readily available on our planet Earth. That is why most species that we exist around have the same basic physical structure; two eyes, followed by a nose below, and then a mouth underneath. The evolution that has happened on our planet is specific to our home, and it is no way logical to assume that other biological species would evolve in the exact same way on a different planet, with different organic conditions, thousands of light years away.
If an alien species were to ever visit us we would not be able to physically ‘relate’ to them as we have been lead to believe.
I’m not saying this in a way that I do not believe there are other forms of life living in our galaxy, or even universe for that matter, but as for right now, we do not know of any other living species to exist within our perceptual reality.
